Pointer Asia's parent company, Pointer Ltd based in the UK, has many years
of experience designing and installing high technology security systems in prison
environments.
This expertise was the catalyst in the expansion plans of Pointer when they were
invited to join a consortium bidding for new projects in Thailand.
After a rigorous bid process with the Department of Corrections, (DOC), Pointer's
consortium was awarded the contract to install prison a very large security system
at Ratchaburi Prison. Part of the commitment was to form a local company, and
Pointer Asia Ltd was officially established in August 2001 to begin this prestigious
project. The system to be installed was one of the largest in Thailand;
therefore the recruitment of key personnel was paramount to the success not only of
the Ratchaburi project, but to the future success of the new company.
Needless to say, the project was completed on time and within budget in June2003.
The system itself consisted of many elements of electronic and physical security, such as:
• Over 300 closed circuit television cameras
• Video motion detection
• High voltage perimeter fence
• Road blockers
• Communication system
• Command centre
• Stand by power system
• Lightning protection
Throughout the installation phase Pointer's project team had to liaise with many other contractors operating on site, not always an easy task, but always carried out in a highly
professional manner. The Pointer team earned the respect of everyone associated with this new build project.
